Gun Safe Buying Guide

A helpful guide for purchasing your gun safe

Firearms can be very dangerous to have around a home and should always be locked away from unauthorized people and children. When purchasing a gun safe it is important to understand the various types of design options and features available. Our gun safes come in a variety of sizes and offer many different features and lock types to protect your firearms and ammunition. With the help of our Gun Safe Buying Guide, you can explore these options and choose the right gun safe for you.
What safe do I need?

What you need to take into account when determining the size of your safe, is the number of guns you own, their size, and any future purchases of guns. If you are just storing handguns then a smaller wall safe or portable gun safe is suitable. These allow you to store multiple handguns and other valuables such as money and important documents. Smaller safes should always be hidden out of sight where children or burglars cannot easily find them.

Storing hunting rifles or shotguns requires a much larger gun safe. The ideal safe would be a freestanding or heavier ground-secured safe. The larger size of the safe, the more expensive it will be. These safes are much harder to move and store multiple shotguns and rifles.

One thing to keep in mind is that you should always purchase a gun safe bigger than what you think you will need. For many gun owners, their collection of guns is bound to grow over time.

What type of lock do you need?

We offer hundreds of safes with many different types of locks. Most safes come standard with one type of lock, but may have an option to change the lock type or add another lock for added security. The following are the different types of locks that we offer:
key lock Key Locks:
When using a key lock, make sure you store your keys in a safe place away from your safe. It is a good idea to have more than one set of keys for extra security. In the case that you lose your keys, most companies will be able to send you a new key if you have a key reference number which will be located on your safe.
combo lock Combination Locks:
Most combination locks are 3 or 4-digits allowing quick access to all of your belongings. If you are interested in added security you can chose a safe with both a combination and key lock.
electronic Electronic Locks:
If multiple users will be using your safe an electronic lock may be the best fit for you. Most electronic locks can be programmed with more than one combination for multiple users. If you will be changing your combination frequently for added security, electronic locks make the task quick and easy. For extra protection you can chose a lock with both an electronic and key lock.
finger scan Fingerprint Scan Lock:
Allows you to open your safe with just the touch of a finger. The fingerprint scan safes let you program and store multiple authorized fingerprints. Never again will you have to worry about losing a key or remembering a combination.
